COVID-19 Update

At Christ’s Body Ministries (CBM), we take the health, safety, and well-being of our daily homeless guests, clients, staff, and volunteers very seriously. We value them and their service. We also work hard every day to serve our homeless guests in a variety of ways. Therefore, we are committed to working smartly and effectively during the COVID-19 pandemic. We want to do our part in our community to reduce the virus spread, while at the same time, maintaining and continuing our services to the homeless. With this in mind, we are taking necessary hygienic steps to protect those seeking care and resources. We are very concerned that homeless men and women are very vulnerable to this COVID-19 virus.  We will do everything we can to continue our life-giving care in safe, effective and innovative ways. At the same time, we will bring to bear reasonable practices to protect our staff, residents, and volunteers too.

Our Response
Cleanliness and good hygienic practices have always been a part of our work. We have already implemented and will continue to put in place good cleanliness guidelines from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and local Denver City Public Health. We are very determined and conscious about keeping our facility as clean and safe as possible, for our guests, staff, volunteers, and residents. Some of these include:

  • Adding hand sanitizer and outside washing stations.

  • Increased daily cleaning and disinfecting practices of service areas.

  • Practicing “social distancing” and minimizing group gatherings,

  • Providing daily nutritious lunches for our homeless guests in an outside serving area.

  • Training our staff, volunteers and residents in required hygienic practices.

  • Requiring current respite care guests to “shelter in place” on our campus.

  • Posting signage related to and encouraging best practices in cleanliness and safety.

  • Networking with other community agencies on best care practices, developing strategies for quarantining guests and residents, should the need arise.

  • Employing an updated volunteer policy that provides reasonable safety.

Any guest, staff, volunteer or resident presenting symptoms consistent with COVID-19 will be referred to seek immediate medical treatment and testing. We will work with Denver Public Health in coordinating additional care and help.

Additionally, and effective immediately, Christ’s Body has implemented the following procedures:

  • All group gatherings and events at CBM been postponed.

  • Homeless guests will not be in our day shelter during this time unless for a scheduled appointment with a pastor, extreme weather conditions or other events.

  • We are still receiving daily donations from 9 am to 3 pm in the back alley between 8th and 9th Avenue. Please call 303-860-1272 or more information.

  • Non-essential staff and volunteers are to work remotely and not report to campus.

  • Essential staff who present symptoms consistent with COVID-19 will be asked to stay home and seek appropriate medical treatment; and

  • Some emergency services feeding, clothing, bathroom access, respite care, and Resource will continue to be provided for the time being, while non-emergency programs will be postponed until further notice.

  • The CBM leadership will review these policies weekly and make adjustments as conditions warrant.

We love and cherish our volunteer team! Keeping our volunteers safe and healthy is a primary concern for us. Therefore, to ensure optimum wellness, Christ’s Body will follow these revised volunteers’ principles:

  • All volunteers over 60 will be asked to take a service sabbatical for now. However, on a case by case basis, waivers will be granted by the CBM CEO or Director of Administration. Talk to us about details. We value our volunteers, and we know how meaningful your service is to you and us. If you chose to step away, for now, we will look forward to welcoming you back in the near future!

  • All volunteers will engage in reasonable and safe personal hygienic practices. Each day, the CBM staff will orient you to appropriate standards that you will need to employ while you are at CBM.

  • Our staff will endeavor to place you in positions of low risk yet meaningful service.

Faith not Fear
In Exodus 14, Moses led the Israelites down a cul-de-sac to the shores of the Red Sea. Behind him, closing quickly was the ferocious Egyptian army led by their ruthless Pharaoh. God told Moses to stand, watch and wait for a miracle. He told him to have faith and not fear! Shortly, the waters would part, and God would deliver his people to safety… At Christ’s Body Ministries, we will have faith and not fear.  We will continue to stand against the COVID-19 pandemic, trusting God for his provision in every area. We serve a Holy God who is in full control. We know that when we stand and wait for Him, He moves on our behalf ahead of us in righteousness and grace. Through this time, CBM will be a beacon of hope to all who come to us.

Thanks for being a part of our team. We covet your prayers, service and financial support. Please contact us at 303-860-1272 with any questions.
